Meet our People
1979
In 1979 Franco Camatta and his associates completed their legal practice requirements and resolved to build their own law firm. An opportunity arose, in Adelaide's north western suburbs, to bring legal services into an area which lay at the intersection of various types of social disadvantage but also contained some of South Australia's key small and medium business enterprises. Bringing local access to high quality legal advice became the key to the firm's early success.
1987
In 1987 prominent human rights lawyer, Stephen Kenny joined Camatta Lawyers after previously practicing in Darwin and Sydney.
Camatta Lawyers provides assistance to South Australians who cannot afford a lawyer and has a proud history of pro bono work.
1990
In 1990 the firm moved from its suburban base to its current location in the heart of the city. The move was prompted by the development of our commercial expertise and the need to be closer to our client base. Camatta Lawyers is located at the centre of the Court precinct which provides easy access to all Courts and is conveniently located close to the City South tram stop.
Today
Camatta Lawyers today has combined staff of 30 solicitors and professional administrative and support staff.
Camatta Lawyers receives many referrals from other lawyers, former and present clients, and people in the business and community sectors who have recognised Camatta Lawyers’ abilities and values. This reflects Camatta Lawyers’ reputation in the legal community and across the South Australian community.
Camatta Lawyers has a proud history of involvement in the South Australian community and providing access to legal services to all sectors of the community through our pro bono work and human rights practice.
Camatta Lawyers’ human rights practice is led by Stephen Kenny who has acted on a pro bono basis for Australians imprisoned overseas including:
- David Hicks in relation to his imprisonment in Guantanamo Bay;
- Robert Langdon in relation to his imprisonment and death sentence in Afghanistan; and
- Provides advice to the Foreign Prisoners Support Services.
Camatta Lawyers provides assistance to South Australians who cannot afford a lawyer and refugees through JusticeNet and the Refugee Advocacy Service South Australia (RASSA).
Camatta Lawyers also provides advice and support to a number of community groups and organisations.
